From Harrisburg:  Follow 322 West. Take the exit toward Innovation Park/Penn State University/Beaver Stadium/Bryce Jordan Center, and merge right onto E. Park Avenue. Turn left at the first light onto Hospital Drive. Bear left at the fork in the road and continue past Emergency Department area and loading docks. Entrance D will be on your right. You may park in the parking area directly across from this entrance. 

From Altoona:  Follow I-99 North/US-220 North. Take US-322 East via Exit 73 toward Penn State University/State College. Merge right onto E. Park Ave. Turn left at the first light onto Hospital Drive. Bear left at the fork in the road and continue past Emergency Department area and loading docks. Entrance D will be on your right. You may park in the parking area directly across from this entrance.

Directions to Trustees Conference Room: Enter at Entrance D.  Continue through the foyer toward the auditorium. Turn right to continue down the hallway. The Trustees Conference Room will be the first set of double doors on your right. 


Topic: Nutrition and Sensory Processing Factors that Affect Mealtime

Program Overview: Registered dietitians need to work on an interdisciplinary team healthcare team to design treatment plans that incorporate the influence of neurobehavioral processes affecting food choices and nutritional health. Recognize resources available to families and community caregivers of people who are disabled with sensory processing issues that impact eating and nutritional health

Objectives:  Enhance leadership skills on an interdisciplinary team by identifying sensory processing factors affecting nutrition. Identify and use community resources for families to collaborate with each other and with professionals on sensory processing factors affecting eating. Integrate sensory considerations into recommendations consistent with dietary guidelines

 

Topic: Current Perspectives on Sodium and Health: The Salty Evidence

Program Overview:  This session will examine the current intakes and dietary sources of sodium in the U.S. diet and review the just-completed ADA Evidence Analysis on sodium, with particular focus on the relationship between sodium intake and blood pressure in normotensive adults. The session will also cover the relationship of sodium sensitivity and dietary intake of salt or sodium with additional discussion of the optimal method for measuring an individual’s blood pressure response to dietary sodium intake in the clinical setting.

Objectives: Examine recent data on the current intake levels of sodium in the US. Explore the classification of the leading food sources of sodium and variations in intake due to age, gender and race. Assess the ADA's Evidence Analysis of sodium and the relationship between sodium intake and blood pressure in normotensive adults, as well as the relationship between sodium sensitivity and dietary intake of salt or sodium. Identify the optimal method for measuring an individual's blood pressure.
